Comparative Degree

1.      Comparative degree digunakan untuk membandingkan 2 orang atau benda. Tambahkan –er pada bentuk perbandingan adjective dan adverb yang terdiri dari satu suku kata.

Perhatikan kata-kata berikut ini:

Adjectives		Adverbs
Tall Cheap safe	Taller Cheaper safer	Fast Hard low	Faster Harder lower

Contohnya di dalam kalimat:

John is tall. Bill is taller.

A train goes fast. An airplane goes faster.

2.      Untuk kata sifat (adjectives) yang terdiri dari 2 suku kata (2 syllable) yang di akhiri dengan hurup –y, rubahlah –y menjadi –I dan tambahkankan –er.

Perhatikan kata-kata berikut:

Heavy Hungry busy

Heavier Hungrier busier

Pretty Friendly happy

Prettier Friendlier happier

Contoh di dalam kalimat:

I’m busy.you’re busier.

This suitcase is heavy. That suitcase is heavier.

3.      Ingatlah bahwa biasanya kata than muncul sebelum kata yang akan di bandingkan.

Bicycles are cheaper than motorcycles. Linda is thinner than Julie. A suitcase is heavier than a briefcase.	Tom drives faster than his father. Airplanes fly higher than birds. Susan studied harder for the test than mike.

pengunaan another, other dan the other

Another

Another adalah sebuah adjective (kata sifat) yang digunakan bersama satu kata benda (count noun). Another memiliki arti additional (tambahan) atau difference (perbedaan). di dalam bahasa inggris singular noun (kata benda tunggal) setelah another dapat di gantikan dengan kata one.

Perhatikan contoh berikut!
I have too many books.
I need another bookcase. (additional)
I need another one.
I need another.

I dont like this tie.
Please show me another tie (difference)
Please show me another one.
Please show me another.

Other

Other adalah kata sifat (adjective) yang muncul sebelum kata benda jamak (count nouns).

Contoh:
I have got a blue pen at school.
I've got two other pens at home.
I've got two other blue pens at home.

Bentuk kata benda jamak (plural noun) other dapat digantikan oleh ones atau boleh juga mengunakan kata others

Contoh:
I have got a blue pen at school.
I have got two other ones at home.
I've got two other blue ones at home.
I've got two others at home.

The Other and The Others

The other and the others digunakan untuk menunjukkan adanya dua benda atau dua grup benda.

Contoh:
There are two bookcases in the store. one is expensive.
How much is the other bookcase?
How much is the other one?
How much is the other?

There are four bookcases in the store. two are expensive.
How much are the other bookcases?
How much are the other ones?
How much are the others?
